How to Style Your Facial Hair

You go a week without shaving and you have a pretty decent amount of facial hair going on. You aren’t so much enjoying the un-clean looking homeless style, so you decide that you want to do something appropriate with your newly grown facial hair. You don’t want to go entirely clean-shaved, but you also don’t want to look like a gorilla anymore. Depending on how your facial hair grows in, you have many options to choose from in terms of style.

Warning: Not everyone can pull off every facial hair style. Everybody grows facial hair in differently, so make sure that you can safely rock the facial hair style that you choose. The following are a few general types of natural facial hair styles:

The first is the only one that can really pull everything off. This natural style is very full and complete. You have the base of hair and could easily pull off anything from a full beard to a mustache to a chin strap. There is nothing standing in your way, and the playing field for you is wide open.

The next is the type that has plenty of hair around the jaw, chin and neck area, but the upper lip are is lacking. This is the type that would look pathetic if they tried to do a mustache. You would also look pretty silly trying to do some sort of goatee. Your best bet is to stick with some sort of 5 o’clock shadow, sideburns or chinstrap.

Another type is the kind that can’t really grow much hair on the cheeks. You can grow a mustache just fine, but you might have a tough time getting a chin strap to be continuous throughout. If you have this type, you should just try to stick to some sort of goatee.

The last kind is the type that should not grow facial hair whatsoever. For some reason, you didn’t get the beard gene and you could easily count the number of hairs on your face without going into triple digits. Unfortunately, you should just rock the clean-shaved look. If you can’t grow a good base to do something with, then just don’t try. A lot of teenagers are like this and they usually grow out of it. However, some people never do. A lot of the time, people with bad acne scars might have a lot of damaged hair follicles on their face and thus won’t be able to grow very good beards. It’s not your fault and doesn’t mean you are any less of a man, it just means you should always shave so that you don’t look like any less of a man.

If you don’t know which type of facial hair grower you are, stop shaving for a week and see what happens. This is really the best way to help present your options on your facial hair styles.

A Summary of the Different Facial Hair Styles

Ever since the invention of the razor several hundred years ago, man has had the capability to express himself through the art of facial hair styles. Some people go without a beard or any type of facial hair for a number of reasons. Maybe you can’t grow facial hair very well. Maybe you have to be clean shaven for work at all times. Maybe you just can’t find a style that works well for you. Regardless, there are still plenty of men who like to show off their facial hair style.

Facial hair is something that defines men. Women can never really take this away from us. We are the only ones that are capable of growing a good amount of facial hair, and we are the only ones that will look good sporting it. Well, some styles look a little better than others. Let’s go over the major different types of facial hair, from the least amount of hair to the most amount.

Clean shaven: This is for the men who either can’t grow much facial hair, don’t like the look, don’t like the feel or simply look like a goof sporting any sort of style. It is pretty simple to maintain, but requires daily full shaves.

Mustache: Just a strip of hair on the upper lip. This style has been slowly going out of style, and younger men are sporting the mustache less and less as the trend is slowing down. There are some awkward stages in trying to grow the mustache, but once you have it going it looks pretty normal. You still need to shave every day; there is just a little less area to shave.

Goatee: This is basically a mustache that goes down and around the mouth. Your cheeks are still clean shaven, but you leave the spot around your mouth still grown out. This style looks good on some men but just terrible on others. You really need to have the ability to grow some good upper-lip hair to pull this off. Again, daily shaving is still needed but even less surface to shave than the mustache.

Neard: I think this is more of a joke. It stands for Neck-Beard. You shave everything except for your neck. This is only done when people are trying to look like a goof.

Chin strap: This is basically a strip that goes down your jaw line and connects at your chin. I have found it is difficult to keep the strip even without taking too much off.

The 5 o’clock shadow: This is my personal favorite. Just do a clean shave every other day. Or every three days. I typically go 5 days.

The Jesus Beard: Simply don’t shave, ever. If you want bum status, don’t cut your hair or shower either. The only time I can see this style acceptable is if you are getting ready for a role in a movie or Halloween.

Regardless of your typical style, be sure to experiment and enjoy your facial hair.

Right Beard Style To The Right Face

stubbleChoosing which kind of beard you should have depends very much on how one’s face is designed. Unfortunately, this is something that many are careless about allowing them then to not fit in it. Right beard style to the right face is something one should strive for and here are some guidelines you can follow:

Round face

If you have a round face, the goat’s beard may be the best choice. It will make your face to look less round. Remember to have a slightly longer beard on the chin and avoid bushy sideburns which will destroy the overall impression.

Long Face

Contrary to the round face, so should those with long faces avoid long beard on his chin, and instead concentrate on the sides. This will lead to the long face will appear to be less long.

Square Face

Those with square faces should do exactly as those with round faces i.e. short beard on the sides and long on the chin. The classic goat beards a winner!

Large Face

If you have a large face, it requires even more beard to become proportional with the face. In other words, with a large face, you should have a fuller beard and a larger mustache!

Small Face

In contrast to those with large faces, those with small faces should have small beard to make it look right. In other words, you must avoid large robust beard and mustache!

Oval Face

For those who are fortunate and have an oval face can easily test different kind of beard styles. Most beard styles will fit perfectly well on an oval face!

With the right style of beard everything looks so much better. Depending on the facial shape it will look right with different styles and the best is to try to follow the advice I have just talked about. To get the beard to look proportional with the face is probably the most important thing!
