I have been a working hairstylest for 23years. I ordered the Andis trimmers to use at home on family, that is why I choose not to get a rechargable, just want to plug in and work. They cut well, feel good in your hand, work well around ears, etc. The down side is that they are very LOUD. Would not want to use them in the salon.

After many years of using cheaper hair/beard trimmers, I finally decided that I was ready to purchase a higher quality item than the basic Wahl beard trimmer that I had. I did a good deal of research, and I read a lot of reviews for many different hair trimmers, and what I found is that without spending really that much more money, you can have a significantly higher quality trimmer. I decided to go with Andis and to get a trimmer with the Pivot type motor instead of the older style that you have to adjust, and finanally selected the Elevate Pivot Pro Trimmer. I have had this new trimmer about a month now, and have been very happy with it. It has very high quality blades which cut cleanly. I read many reviews that mentioned that the blades get extremely hot when in use, but I have not experienced this level of heat. The blades do indeed get warm while in use which, to me, is expected due to the friction generated by the lower cutting blade which moves back and forth at very high speed rubbing against the very small/fine teeth on the top immovable blade. However, I would certianly not describe the result as “extremely hot”, my experience has been that the blades, at worst get fairly warm, but no where near hot enough to cause discomfort and by no means actually burn a person. If you are experiencing this level of heat, then I would have to believe that you are not cleaning and oiling the blades after each use as is recommended in the instructions shipped with the trimmer (by the way, a cleaning brush and oil are included in the package).
Also, some reviews indicated that you could use this trimmer for shaving as opposed to using a blade or electric razor. While the trimmer does cut close, in my humble opinion, it is not sufficient for shaving unless you prefer the “one day old stubble look” (i.e. more than a 5 o’clock shadow).
Bottom line, thus far I have been extremely happy with this purchase, and would highly recommend this trimmer.
